It's graduation season in Stockton, which means two things are guaranteed: someone will trip on their gown, and every family will end up with about four hundred photos. Close-up photos. Hugging-at-arm's-length photos. Photos that will live on grandma's mantel for the next thirty years. Whether you're the one in the cap or the one crying in the second row, here's the realistic two-week plan for skin that photographs the way you feel.
The two-week runway
Great event skin is mostly a matter of sequencing. Working backwards from the ceremony:
- Two weeks out: the real facial. This is the appointment where any deeper work happens — extractions, exfoliation, congestion cleanup. Two weeks gives skin time to settle completely and let the results bloom.
- One week out: brows. Shaping and tinting settle beautifully in a few days, so the week-before window is perfect. Defined brows do more for photos than almost anything else — they frame every expression on that stage.
- Two to three days out: the finishing pass. Dermaplaning, a hydrating treatment, or both. Dermaplaning sweeps away peach fuzz and dead surface cells so light bounces off the skin evenly — the camera notices, and makeup glides on like it was airbrushed.
- Day of: nothing new. Your normal routine, sunscreen for the outdoor ceremony, done. Graduation morning is not the moment to try that mask your cousin swears by.
For the graduate
Teen and young-adult skin has its own rhythm — hormones, finals stress, and a spring's worth of late nights all show up right on schedule. The approach is gentler than adult prep: deep but kind cleansing, light exfoliation, safe extractions, calming hydration. If your grad prepped for prom with me, they already know the drill — my prom prep timeline is the same playbook, and graduation is simply its second performance of the season.
One honest note for stressed seniors: skin picking under pressure is real, and the week before graduation is when it does the most visible damage. A professional facial takes that job out of their hands — literally.
Day-of advice for the grad: our May ceremonies are outdoors and warm, so sunscreen before the gown goes on — face, ears, and the back of the neck that spends two hours facing the sun while you face the stage. Bring blotting papers instead of caking on powder if shine shows up; a quick blot photographs far better than a thick layer of anything. And drink water before you line up. Glowing skin in photos is partly good prep and partly just hydration doing its quiet job.
For the parents (yes, you)
Here's the part everyone forgets: you're in these photos too. Right next to your graduate, in daylight, at close range, forever. Parents pour years into getting a kid across that stage and then book exactly nothing for themselves. A single 50-minute session — hydrating facial, a little dermaplaning, some overdue quiet — changes how you look in the photos and, maybe more importantly, how you feel standing in the sun watching your kid's name get called.
Every appointment at my studio starts with a professional skin analysis and follows all-inclusive pricing — you book the time, and whatever your skin needs that day is included. No upsells while you're captive on the treatment bed. That applies to grads and parents alike.
Make it a family booking
It's just me in the studio, which means one person at a time — but it also means I can schedule a grad and parent back-to-back so you make a morning of it. Some families turn it into a little tradition — a quiet hour each before a loud, wonderful day. Graduation weeks fill up fast (May and June are my busiest photo seasons), so call or text me with your ceremony date and I'll build the timeline backwards from it. You can browse the full menu of services ahead of time, but honestly — bring me the date and the faces, and I'll handle the sequencing.

How close to graduation can I get a facial?
For deeper work — extractions, stronger exfoliation — aim for about two weeks out so everything settles completely. A gentle, hydrating facial is safe as close as two to three days before the ceremony. The only real rule: nothing brand-new to your skin in the final week.
What is the best quick treatment before photos?
Dermaplaning, hands down. It removes the fine peach fuzz and dead surface cells in one session, so skin photographs smoother and makeup applies like it was airbrushed. There's no downtime, which makes it ideal in the last few days before an event.
Can my graduate and I book appointments together?
Yes — as a solo practitioner I see one person at a time, but I regularly schedule families back-to-back so a grad and parent can come in the same visit. Call or text (209) 639-7637 and I'll block the time together; graduation weeks fill early, so reach out soon.
How much does graduation skin prep cost?
My pricing is all-inclusive: a 50-minute facial is $140, 70 minutes is $170, and 100 minutes is $250 — and whatever your skin needs that day, including dermaplaning or a calming mask, is part of the appointment. Teen facials follow the same model, with treatments adapted for young skin.
