Every year, somewhere in the last two weeks of December, someone calls wanting "everything" done before New Year's Eve. I love the enthusiasm. I also spend a good part of that call gently talking them out of half of it — because the fastest way to ring in January red and peeling is to try something ambitious the week of a big night. After thirty years of party-season prep, here's my honest guide to what's safe this close to NYE, and what should wait for the quiet weeks of January.
Safe bets in the final week
These treatments deliver visible results with no downtime, which makes them ideal even days before the party:
- A hydrating facial. Plump, calm, glowing skin — the whole point of the season. Even the night before works.
- Dermaplaning. Removes the fine surface fuzz and dead skin so makeup glides on like it was airbrushed. Two to three days out is my sweet spot.
- LED light therapy. Zero downtime, calming, and it pairs beautifully with a facial.
- Nanoinfusion. Needle-free serum infusion that boosts hydration and glow the very same day.
- Lash and brow tinting. Wake up on January 1st with defined brows and lashes and skip half your makeup — a smart move when the night runs long.
Notice what everything on that list has in common: predictability. We already know how skin responds to these treatments, which is exactly the quality you want in the final week. The last days of December are for proven performers, not auditions — save the experiments for a month with no cameras in it.
The spray tan window
An airbrush spray tan is very NYE-friendly, but it runs on a schedule. Book it about two days before the event: that gives the color time to develop fully and settle evenly, and gets you past the initial no-shower development window well before you put on anything sparkly. Exfoliate before your appointment, skip lotions and deodorant the day of, wear loose dark clothes to the session, and moisturize afterward to keep the fade even. Please don't wear your party outfit to tan day. Ask me how I know.
What to skip unless you've done it before
Here's the honest list. In the final week before NYE, I won't give you:
- A first-time chemical peel. Peels are wonderful in their proper timing — I covered the math when I wrote about timing treatments before a big event. A first peel needs one to two weeks of runway because your skin's response isn't predictable yet. If you're an established peel client and we already know how your skin behaves, a familiar gentle peel earlier in the window can be fine — that's a call we make together.
- Aggressive extractions. Clearing serious congestion can leave temporary redness, and a worked-on blemish takes days to settle. On a deadline, calming and concealing beats excavating.
- Anything brand new. New retinol, new acid, new anything from a holiday gift set — hold it until January. Your bathroom experiments should never debut during party week.
Day-of, and the bigger picture
Party day itself: gentle cleanse, moisturizer, SPF if you're out in daylight, and nothing heroic. If you had dermaplaning done earlier in the week, your makeup will glide on and sit beautifully, so go lighter than you think you need — well-prepped skin does most of the work on its own. Drink water alongside the champagne — I'm an esthetician; I'm contractually obligated to say it. And whatever the night brings, please take the makeup off before you sleep; January 1st is hard enough without a congested complexion. And if this season already ran you ragged, take heart: January is the perfect month for the bigger corrective work, since peels and resurfacing love low winter sun.

How close to New Year's Eve can I get a facial?
A hydrating facial is safe even the day before — there's no downtime, just calm, glowing skin. If you want dermaplaning included, two to three days ahead is ideal so your skin is perfectly settled for makeup.
When should I book a spray tan before NYE?
About two days before the event. That allows the color to develop fully and settle evenly before the party. Exfoliate beforehand, wear loose dark clothing to your session, and moisturize afterward to keep the fade even.
Can I get a chemical peel before New Year's Eve?
Not as a first-timer — a first peel needs one to two weeks of buffer because your skin's response isn't predictable yet. Established peel clients whose skin I know may safely do a familiar, gentle peel earlier in December. When in doubt, we save peels for January, which is prime peel season anyway.
How much does pre-event skin prep cost?
There's no special event pricing — every appointment is all-inclusive. A 50-minute European facial is $140, 70 minutes all-inclusive is $170, and 100 minutes is $250, each including a professional skin analysis and whatever treatments fit your skin and your timeline. No upsells.
