The week between Christmas and New Year's is my favorite oddity on the calendar — the year is effectively over, nothing new has started, and everyone finally exhales. Before January arrives with its parade of miracle products and ambitious resolutions, I want to suggest something quieter: look backward first. One honest review of what this year actually did to your skin will teach you more than any product launch will teach you in 2025.
Ask the year some questions
Pour a coffee, sit somewhere comfortable, and think through these honestly:
- What improved? And what were you doing while it improved? Consistency has a sneaky way of hiding behind luck — the answer is usually a habit, not a hero product.
- What flared, and when? Breakouts every July? Flaking every December? Redness after every stressful stretch? Recurring timing is a clue, not a coincidence.
- What did you actually use? Open your cabinet. The products with the most missing are your real routine. The nearly full ones are donations to hope.
- What did you never repurchase? That's your skin voting. Count the ballots.
No judgment in any of this — I've been in aesthetics for over thirty years, and my own bathroom has hosted its share of hopeful mistakes. The point is pattern-finding, not guilt.
One suggestion: write your answers down somewhere you'll actually find them next December. Two or three sentences is plenty. Future you, standing in this same quiet week a year from now, will be amazed at how useful those notes are — and at how differently a year reads on paper than it felt while it was happening.
The photo trick
Your mirror is a liar; it sees you too often to notice change. Your camera roll doesn't have that problem. Find a photo of yourself from last January — decent light, no filter — and set it next to one from this month. Look at texture, tone, and the specific things you worry about. Sometimes the comparison reveals real progress your daily mirror never announced, which is wonderfully motivating. Sometimes it shows a slow drift you've been ignoring. Either way, you now know something true, and one January-to-December photo per year is the cheapest skin tracking system ever invented.
Think in seasons for 2025
Here's the biggest upgrade I can offer your new year: stop treating skincare as one static routine and start rotating it with the calendar. Skin in this valley lives between two extremes — grey, foggy winters and long, punishing summers — and treatments have natural seasons too. Fall and winter, with their low sun, are the window for corrective work like chemical peels; I made the full case for peel season back in September, and January and February extend that same low-UV window beautifully. Summer flips the priorities to protection and hydration: SPF discipline, lighter textures, calming care. Spring and fall are for transitions. Sketch your 2025 in that shape, and suddenly every product and appointment pulls in the same direction instead of fighting the weather.
And if you already know a big event is coming — a wedding, a milestone birthday, a reunion — put it on the map now and plan the runway backward from it. Good skin timelines are measured in months, not weeks, and January is when the year's timelines still have room in them.
Start with an analysis, not a haul
If your year-in-review leaves you with more questions than answers, that's literally what I'm here for. Every appointment at Truth In Beauty begins with a professional skin analysis — the trained, in-person version of everything above — and the all-inclusive model means your session simply becomes whatever your skin needs on the day. Booking one in January is the most useful "new year, new me" purchase I know of, mostly because it prevents five less useful ones. You can browse everything on the services page, or reach out through the contact page if you'd like to talk through your year first.
Happy New Year, truly. May your 2025 skin be boring — in the very best way.

When is the best time to start a new skin treatment plan?
January is genuinely ideal — the sun is low, which makes it a safe window for corrective treatments like peels, and a plan started now can finish its series before spring events arrive. Starting with a professional skin analysis beats starting with a shopping trip.
How often should I get professional facials?
Monthly is ideal because it matches the skin's natural renewal cycle, but quarterly — one per season — is a realistic rhythm that still delivers steady results. Even an event-driven schedule beats no schedule at all.
What does a skin analysis involve?
I examine your skin closely under proper light — hydration, congestion, sun damage, sensitivity, barrier condition — and we talk through your history and habits. It's included in every appointment at Truth In Beauty, and it decides what your treatment becomes that day.
How much does a facial cost at Truth In Beauty?
Pricing is all-inclusive: $140 for a 50-minute European facial, $170 for 70 minutes, and $250 for 100 minutes. The skin analysis and every treatment your skin needs that day are included, with no upsells.
