Sorella Apothecary: Clean Beauty That Feels Like Luxury

By Jamie Sanchez, Licensed Esthetician · August 2024 · Truth In Beauty, Stockton CA

Clients who know me know I'm devoted to Eminence Organics — I wrote a whole piece earlier this year on why I chose it as my exclusive organic line. So people are sometimes surprised to find a second name on my shelf: Sorella Apothecary. Today I want to explain why it's there, because the answer says a lot about how I run my treatment room.

Why carry a second line at all?

Because no single product line fits every face that walks through my door. After 30 years in aesthetics, that's one of the few things I'd carve in stone. Skin varies by type, by season, by age, by what your week did to you. An esthetician with exactly one line ends up bending every client to fit the products. I'd rather bend the products to fit the client.

So my shelf works like a toolbox. Eminence is my organic backbone. Dermalogica brings a clinical option. And Sorella Apothecary fills a spot I care about deeply: clean formulas that feel genuinely indulgent on the skin.

What "clean luxury" actually means

"Clean" is a word the beauty industry throws around freely, so here's how I use it: formulas built without the harsh or questionable ingredients I prefer to keep off my clients' faces, from a company that's transparent about what goes in the jar. That's my baseline for anything I stock.

The "luxury" part is what surprised me. Plenty of clean lines are honest but, frankly, a little joyless — thin lotions, watery serums, all virtue and no velvet. Sorella's textures feel like a high-end spa: creams that melt in, masques that smell like something you'd order for dessert, finishes that leave skin soft and comfortable instead of squeaky. When a product feels this good, clients actually use it, and consistency is where results come from.

How Sorella complements Eminence

I think of the two lines as sisters with different personalities — fitting, since "sorella" is Italian for sister. Eminence is the farm: Biodynamic ingredients, certified organic, deeply rooted in nature. Sorella is the modern apartment in the city: clean, polished, a little glamorous. Between them (with Dermalogica on hand when a clinical approach fits), I can hydrate, exfoliate, brighten or calm nearly any skin that lands on my table — without compromising on ingredient standards in any direction.

In practice it plays out like this: a client who wants everything on her face to be certified organic gets a fully Eminence treatment, start to finish. Another whose dry skin craves richer, cushiony textures might get a Sorella masque layered over an Eminence serum. A third with a specific concern might call for something more clinical in one step of the treatment. Same table, same esthetician, three different toolkits — and nobody has to compromise.

How I choose which line touches your skin

Not by mood, and never by what I want to sell you — my all-inclusive pricing means the products used in your treatment don't change your bill, so there's no incentive for me to push anything. The decision comes from the professional skin analysis that starts every facial. I look at what your skin is doing that day — dehydrated, congested, reactive, dull — and pull the right tools from whichever line serves it best. Some appointments are all Eminence, some are all Sorella, and many are a blend.

If you're curious what your skin would get, the honest answer is: come find out. That's not a sales pitch — it's just how customized skincare works. Every line on my shelf passed the same test before it earned a spot there: I vetted it, used it, and watched how real skin responded to it over time. Sorella passed with room to spare, and it's been earning its keep next to Eminence ever since.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sorella Apothecary organic like Eminence?

Sorella is a clean luxury line — thoughtfully formulated without the ingredients I choose to avoid, with textures that feel like a high-end spa. For clients who specifically want certified organic and Biodynamic products, Eminence remains my exclusive organic line. Many treatment plans use both.

Does it cost more if my facial uses Sorella products?

No. My appointments are all-inclusive: you book the time — 50 minutes for $140, or 70 and 100 minutes at $170 and $250 — and whichever products your skin needs that day are simply part of the treatment. The product line never changes the price.

Which line is best for sensitive skin?

There's no universal answer — that's exactly why every facial starts with a professional skin analysis. Sensitive skin reacts to specific ingredients, not to brand names, so I choose gentle formulas from whichever line suits your skin on the day.

Can one facial use products from more than one line?

Absolutely, and most of mine do. I might cleanse with one line, treat with another and finish with a third, depending on what your skin needs. I match products to skin, not to brand loyalty.
